FirstSpirit Refactoring as a Blueprint for International Growth
Challenge
The existing Dendrit platform had grown organically but had become difficult to maintain. Complex templates and outdated frontend frameworks (jQuery, Bootstrap) hindered further development. Inconsistent workflows made editorial work cumbersome. In parallel, the old Dendrit website was still running on TYPO3 - without synergy effects with the FirstSpirit setup of the parent company Kemper. Redundant code adjustments and missing integration capabilities were slowing down the company.
Our Solution
After a structured FirstSpirit audit, we carried out a targeted refactoring. The TYPO3 website was fully migrated to FirstSpirit and now uses the existing Kemper template kit with its own Dendrit theme. jQuery and Bootstrap were replaced by a modern PatternLab architecture following Atomic Design. CI-relevant information such as colors, fonts and icons are automatically transferred from PatternLab to FirstSpirit. Beanshell scripts were replaced with clean Java modules. The Talentstorm API integration automates the import of job listings including delta synchronization. An SEO-optimized URL structure and modular page architectures provide the foundation for international rollout.
Results
Dendrit has not only become more capable independently but serves as a blueprint for the entire Kemper Group. The platform is stable, flexible, and enables faster content delivery. The automated job listing integration improves visibility of open positions and simplifies the HR process. The planned migration from FirstSpirit OnPrem to FirstSpirit Cloud on AWS infrastructure ensures automatic monthly updates and further scalability.
